Pride of Reading awards

A bus company and cycling reward scheme were among the winners of this yearís Pride of Reading Awards, which recognise the contributions made to the borough, by local businesses and residents.

The awards were hosted by TV presenter and DJ Chris Tarrant and announced at a ceremony on 3 November at Reading's Madejski Stadium, home of Reading F.C.

Reading Buses took the prize for Business in Action for a business with over 50 employees, while retailer Jacobs the Jewellers won the corresponding award for a business with under 50 employees.

For its positive contribution to the environment, cycle reward initiative, Betterpoints Bikesmart Reading, was honoured with the Business Environment Award.

Theatre company Reading Between The Lines was awarded for its Cultural Contribution to entertainment in the town, while recently retired policeman Graham Benham of Thames Valley Police won the coveted Employee of the Year for his 40 years' service to Reading, where he monitored local football matches.
