Two distribution warehouses will open south of Reading town centre in 2018, following outline planning permission granted by Reading Council.

Developer Exton Estates exchanged contracts with the council for a 3.24-ha site at Island Road, which is situated on the A33 and close to J11 of the M4.

The council then granted outline permission for two logistics warehouses to be built on the site, commencing in January 2018, with an expected completion date of December 2018.

One warehouse at 9,325sq m was pre-let to logistics leader DHL with the other at 1,486sq m being speculatively developed.

Stuart Bedford, director at Exton Estates, said: "This scheme is in a well-established urban logistics location and reflects our strategy of acquiring prominent sites in under supplied markets.

"We look forward to progressing our plans and are delighted to add Island Road to Exton Estates extensive industrial portfolio."
